Who is the mystery man behind the ever-present red mask and trench coat? Singer, songwriter and producer Pale Jay might be shrouded in anonymity, but there’s no mistaking his distinctive sound: a seductive mix of folk, indie and lovelorn soul, furnished with his blissfully decadent falsetto. Making his Sydney Opera House debut, Pale Jay will play an exclusive show he’s uniquely orchestrated with a string quartet – a one-of-a-kind, never-to-be-repeated performance as part of Vivid LIVE.
A trained jazz vocalist and pianist whose influences range from Carole King to William Onyeabor, Pale Jay came to attention with the soulful EP The Celestial Joy (2021) and his full-length debut Bewilderment (2023), a dreamy exploration of love and heartbreak that combined the singer’s luscious R&B with slow disco, Afrobeat and string arrangements. Expanding upon his signature sound, Pale Jay’s lush new album Low End Love Songs (2025) – a deeply intimate journey through love and loss – fuses his soul roots with elements of Latin rhythm, jazz and funk.
