Your favourite R&B artist’s favourite R&B artist, Chicago-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Ravyn Lenae has been blowing up in the last couple of years on the strength of her acclaimed debut album HYPNOS (2022) and its genre-defying follow-up Birds Eye (2024), a record that rode high on critics’ best-of lists and had superstar SZA naming it one of her faves. She returns to Australia for the first time in six years, making her long-awaited Sydney Opera House debut at Vivid LIVE.
Following a string of buzzy EPs recorded while she was still a teenager, Lenae teamed up with breakout viral star and producer Steve Lacy for her hotly anticipated debut album HYPNOS, a record of dreamy, atmospheric alt-R&B and mellifluous vocals that featured the Lacy duet ‘Skin Tight’. Overseen by Kendrick Lamar producer Dahi, Lenae’s sophomore album Bird’s Eye – featuring collaborations with Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign and the legendary Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis – took her sound to a whole other level. With its ambitious mix of futuristic R&B, hip-hop, avant-pop and indie rock, the record dazzled critics and audiences alike.
