Event Details
The Harpoon Harry Vivid Sydney / May 26th - June 17th program seems pretty complete as it is; full of the most concentrated quality local and interstate DJs, live acts and epic party crews to ever play our beloved Cuban Mansion! We literally can't wait to welcome you to the dancefloor this Friday for Vivid: Post Pluto w/ PP Dance Orbit, Riggles + Adam Strömstedt and then Vivid: Late Night Express: Simon Caldwell b2b Myles Mac (Melb)) on Saturday...and for every other event over the next four weeks!
But what's a Harry's party season without an epic house party!
So far we danced with Moodymann, The Black Madonna, Chez Damier and Mood II Swing - this time we continue the tradition of pioneering Americans but we've also stopped in via Auckland and our own backyard for some epic live jammers and DJs!
Starting at the top we're so stoked to welcome one of our legimate favourites!
Rick Wilhite
Detroit – born, raised and residing in – that’s the first, the second and the last thing you need to know about Rick Wilhite. Although he may not be as talked about as his Detroit peers and fellow 3 Chairs collaborators Kenny Dixon Jr. (aka Moodymann) and Theo Parrish, there’s no doubting Rick "The Godson" Wilhite’s position as one of the central characters in the city's house music heritage. Influenced by Detroit’s legendary pool of musicians, he entered production studios at the early age of eleven and since then he has dedicated his life to the music industry.
Working in a record store was his first step along the way and after learning the ropes of the vinyl industry, he set about becoming a shop proprietor in his own right. The House of Music was his first venture, and up until its closure late last year, he was the owner of Vibes New and Rare Music. He learned at an early age that a career in music takes more than playing your favourite records. Multifaceted crowd control, sound engineering and creative party promotion are what make him more than a Detroit DJ. 20 plus years of DJing clubs and parties makes him one of Detroit’s best.
And we've got some very epic supports for Rick...
Frank Booker
Frank Booker has quietly built a worldwide reputation for incredible edits and amazing DJ sets. His work for labels like Wonderful Noise, Sleazy Beats and Disco Deviance sells out on vinyl instantly and he has recently launched his own vinyl only imprint, Down in the Basement. First signed to boutique London record label, Untracked Recordings in 2009, the Auckland based DJ and producer released two EPs followed by a 2011 release for Wonderful Noise all of which become instant bestsellers and bombs for discerning dancefloors worldwide.
Booker was also the co-host of the highly acclaimed ‘Hit it & Quit It’ radio show alongside the legendary Recloose. As a DJ, Booker has played alongside the likes of Moodymann, Francois K, Tiger & Woods, Bill Brewster, Dam Funk, Kon, DJ Day, Trus’me, Kid Sublime, Rich Medina, Max Graef and many more. His music spans a wide array of quality dance music: from deepest disco, to 80s boogie and cutting edge house music, as well as some super special re-edits all put together with focus firmly on the dancers!
The Possé
The Posse are a new face to many people but they are a collection of some of Australia’s most talented electronic music veterans. The five piece established themselves quickly in the Sydney electronic music scene supporting NO ZU on their Afterlife tour and also scoring a Vivid Sydney residency at Cakes Wines Cellar Door. After a year of knuckling down in the studio and a string of sold out shows they’ve boiled down their favourite influences into an incredible, raw, funked out live show and production team.
Together, Andrew Elston (Physique/Toni Toni Lee/Catcall), Ross Ferraro and Jarrol Renaud (AKA The Goods), Michael Di Francesco (Touch Sensitive/Van She) and NZ jazz keys prodigy Andrew Bruce, deliver funk and disco with the beat of soulful Detroit and Chicago house.
Simon Caldwell
The man requires no lengthy paragraph, it's Simon F**kin' Caldwell!
These legends among legends will be joined by Rimbombo, Taridas (Sydney Pony Club) and Keep It DISCO, three crews laying down non-stop disco in the Lounge on Level 1!
Stayed tuuuuuuuuuned dancers, we're going large... again!
