"Going Under: Bypass", curated by Deepa, is the final in a series of three artist-led shows at Mary's Underground as part of Vivid Sydney's 2022 live music program.

Deepa’s USBs are packed with oddball selections and leftfield cuts, her taste stretching from rose-tinted Indopop, to cheeky breaks, to deep, hypnotic drums. You can find her hosting FBi Radio’s Saturday Sunset, and DJing around the city solo as well as one half of jazz-loving duo, Honey Point. For Bypass, Deepa invites artists and performers of the South Asian diaspora to the stage for a spicy night of celebration and representation.

Bypass began its life on FBi Radio as a means to explore the music of the South Asian diaspora. It’s since moved to Naarm’s Skylab Radio, and now, in its club form, will ignite the beating heart of the dancefloor for a deep dive into community. Connecting the club to the culture, strap in for a night of carnatic drums, complex rhythms, and heaving bass. Be ready to explore all realms of dance; from deep to dub, dark to light, moments and sounds charged with eagerness for a shared space.

From daytimers to nightimers, this night holds space for people across all castes, religions and cultures.

Bypass takes place on the stolen land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation. We recognise the Gadigal people as its true custodians, and pay respect to Elders past and present and emerging. Indigenous sovereignty was never ceded, this always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Mary's Underground opens up to the immersive and cross-disciplinary, creating a space for artists to craft experiences that are bold, evocative and unforgettable. A place to bare the stories of their community, their soul, the sound of their city.
