Do not miss this night with two transfixing, impassioned and unmissable First Nations soul performers – the legendary Emma Donovan with long-time collaborators The Putbacks, and emerging Noongar artist Bumpy.
Singing since she was a child in renowned family band The Donovans, Emma Donovan is one of Australia’s most respected singer-songwriters and a touchstone of our soul scene. Combining classic American soul with First Nations protest music, Emma has released three albums with Melbourne rhythm and funk band The Putbacks since 2014, the collaboration elevating each other to new heights.
"The Putbacks play like they’re outside of time, a lived-in vibe that suits [Emma]’s robust vocal flourishes while lending a close, confiding air to her lyrics." - NME
Adopting her childhood nickname — adorned due to a knack for bumping into all kinds of obstacles — Bumpy draws from the strength found in tenderness, scars and all. The Noongar woman and Naarm artist’s stirring voice is transportive, arresting listeners with complex, intimate and multi-faceted truths of loss, joy and connection on debut EP Morning Sun.
