Rising Australian hip-hop star Baro today drops his brand-new single 'PRETTY', as well as announces the details of his forthcoming EP 'Just Problems You Need To Know',which will be released on May 19, 2017 via Create/Control & teamtrick. To celebrate the release of the EP, Baro will be heading out across the country for a headline tour. The 'F**k The Judge' tour kicks off in Perth on May 20 before hitting up Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Special guests are Good Morning and Nasty Mars, and tickets are on sale now.
'PRETTY', which premiered online via i-D follows in the footsteps of the Melbourne rapper's massive 2016 single 'wdubi' and signals the diversity that can be expected from the rest of the EP. 'PRETTY', sees Baro in experimentation mode, exploring his sound, and drawing worthy comparisons with the likes of Frank Ocean and Shabazz Palaces. Jazzy hooks and bouncy beats are traded for indie guitars and fuzzed out harmonies, as Baro explores melodies, textures and tones with an approach unlike anyone else on the Australian hip hop landscape.
"I wrote this in summer of the beginning of '16 about a real girl about a month after I picked the guitar up. Doesn't really sound like a single but it's more than the concept of a single to me. As it is disguised as a love song, it revolves around insecurities and self-love issues when yearning for somebody. Cop my EP when it comes out May 19."
At just 19, Baro has spent the last few years setting the Australian hip-hop scene alight and his international sound has started turning hip hop heads around the world. Having recently being named by Noisey as "part of an exciting new force in Australian hip-hop" alongside the likes of Briggs, Sampa the Great and Remi.
He's set to further ascend now with the release of 'Just Problems You Need To Know', recorded in Melbourne at Smooch Records in Brunswick (Josh Delaney's studio) and Baro's own infamous Bungalow Studio with a full live band, with production help from Josh Delaney (Chet Faker, Rat & Co) and longtime collaborator Mitch Graunke. The result is a diverse body of work that features flashes of jazz, soul, RnB, indie rock, and of course hip hop.
Baro has accompanied Vallis Alps and Remi on their recent national tours, performed at Laneway 2017 and Splendour In The Grass 2016, and spent the last few years getting his stage reps in with international acts Mick Jenkins, Freddie Gibbs, Badabadnotgood, and Danny Brown.
