Mystery Gateau is a birthday cake that celebrates two important milestones: the 10th anniversary of Vivid Sydney and 10 years of the internationally renowned cooking show MasterChef Australia.

The preparation, baking and decoration of this elaborate and mouthwatering concoction is projected onto the historic façade of the ASN Co Building in The Rocks. Audiences see mini construction-worker chefs undertake an exciting cooking journey, working frantically against the famous MasterChef clock as it ticks down to the surprising final reveal.

Network Ten worked with animation studio Mighty Nice Australia to create the animation projection which integrates a number of techniques to achieve an energetic and rich hybrid vision.

Using the combination of 2D and 3D animation, the cake is enriched with strong solid colours, personality and the touches of dimension and realism. The building itself is pixel mapped, to ensure that the historical ASN Co architecture is interlaced with the storytelling and animation of this cake.

Over the last the 10 years MasterChef Australia has engaged millions of Australians and shed new light on the joy and skills of cooking. It has also set the bar for competitive cooking shows globally.
