Event Details

This highly popular micro-film festival returns to Vivid Sydney with a curated collection of some of the newest and most thought-provoking animated and live action short films from our northern neighbours.

Northern Voices brings together an eclectic mix of short films includes works by established Asian filmmakers – including OscarTM and BAFTA nominees – as well as student work from esteemed institutions such as the China Academy of Art and Tokyo University of the Arts.

Settle in to watch more than 15 micro-short films made by Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Syrian, Hong Kong and South Korean filmmakers. All are under ten minutes long and most have never been seen in Australia before. At the end of the program, you’ll have an opportunity to vote for your favourite film (via mobile phone) to determine the Northern Voices Audience Prize 2022.

Delve into the hearts and minds of our northern neighbours and see the world through their eyes.

Presented in association with the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA). AACTA is a not-for-profit organisation established to recognise, encourage, promote and celebrate film and television excellence in Australia.
