Vivid Sydney is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, so it’s no surprise that it draws big crowds. If you’re planning on taking the family, going in a big group or just want some breathing space, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the inspiring installations at Vivid Sydney 2019. One of our top tips is to explore the festival early in the evening and early in the week, especially between Monday and Wednesday.

2019 marks 50 years since the Apollo 11 lunar mission. It was 16 July 1969 when Neil Armstrong, Edwin ‘Buzz’ Aldrin and Michael Collins blasted off into space. Some 530 million people around the world tuned into the live television broadcast of the Moon landing on 20 July. When the ‘Eagle’ lunar module landed on the surface of the Moon, Armstrong was first to step out, famously saying ‘that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’. The mission would last eight days, three hours, 18 minutes and 35 seconds with the trio of heroes returned safely to earth.

When you’re jumping between meetings and appointments and shunting life admin to the sidelines so you can try to see family and friends, the prospect of cultivating a rich inner life can seem more remote than taking that trek in the Himalayas.

There is more family fun in store than ever before as Vivid Sydney returns for its 11th year with 23 days and nights of light, music and ideas packed with highlights to delight and entertain. The fun-filled festival will transform the city from Friday 24 May to Saturday 15 June, with large-scale light installations and projections, free family events, and creative ideas and workshops for children, teens and families.

Vivid Sydney illuminates Sydney Harbour once again in 2019 with a stellar line-up of events featuring incredible light artists, music makers and brilliant game changing minds. Vivid Sydney, now in its eleventh year, is the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere, lighting up Sydney and surrounds at 6pm each night for 23 days from Friday 24 May until Saturday 15 June 2019.

If you thought exploring Vivid Sydney’s three kilometre Light Walk on foot was the only way to be amazed by the creativity and innovation of this year’s installations, think again. There is an array of ways to explore the largest festival of light, music and ideas in the Southern Hemisphere and still ensure you capture the most social-worthy snaps along the way. This year, there are more ways to experience the festival than ever before, whether it’s from the water, high above the city or even whirling around on a theme park ride.

The route for the Vivid Sydney Light Walk stretches for more than three kilometres. The light walk includes major projections and installations at the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Customs House and through out The Rocks.
