Neon Dreams FAQs

Do I have to book tickets in advance?

Yes, it’s recommended that you purchase your tickets in advance of the event. There may be tickets available onsite each night, but there is no guarantee. To avoid disappointment, we strongly advise booking in advance.

What size skates are available to hire?

Our skates run from J11 up to size 13 US men’s or a 46 EU.

What if I can't attend at the time I booked?

Unfortunately we don’t allow changes in session times and entry will only be granted to the specific session you hold a ticket for.

When are you open?

We’re open every evening during Vivid Sydney, from the 23 May – 14 June, 6pm – 11pm.

What should I wear?

Wear clothing that is comfortable and that you can easily move around in. If you are hiring skates, it’s essential that you wear socks. The rink is undercover but outdoors, so make sure you dress to suit the cold weather. Roller skating can be a wonderful space to express your personal style, so please come and be your fabulous self. Our theme is Neon Dreams, so sparkles, spangles and outrageous hair is all welcome and encouraged.

What should I bring with me?

Bring your skates and safety gear (also available at the venue), socks (required for all hire skates) and a water bottle. We also suggest you bring a bag to hold your shoes and belongings as there are no storage facilities for personal belongings at the venue.

What should I NOT bring with me?

Please do not bring illicit substances, alcohol, chewing gum, food, other forms of wheels (bikes, scooters, skateboards etc) or valuables to the rink.

What wheels should I bring with me?

If you are an experienced skater, and have options, standard outdoor wheels (PU76 - 88) would suit this surface, which has a bit of grip but has slick patches on one of the floor tile surfaces. You’re more than welcome to chat to our on rink attendant if you wish to know more about the lay of the land once you’re there.

Do you supply safety gear?

We recommend you bring your own safety gear where possible for your comfort. However, we have a limited number of safety gear including wrist guards, knee pads, elbow pads and helmets available at the venue free of charge and provided to attendees on a first come first serve basis. All gear will be sanitised between uses

I would like to bring small children, can they skate?

Children under the age of 16 need to be accompanied and actively monitored by an adult. In order to skate, younger children should be able to independently stand and walk, and must have an accompanying non-skating adult if they are unable to move independently on their own (all skaters under the age of 5).

What if it rains?

Neon Dreams is an all-weather event! The roller rink is located under cover, so you can still enjoy the fun without getting wet. Sydney's weather can be unpredictable, so we recommend dressing accordingly and bringing weatherproof clothing if you think it might be needed.

I'm new to skating, help!

No problems! We welcome skaters of all skill levels. Each night of the event, we will have a roaming coach at the rink to help any beginners along on their skating journey. In the meantime, here are a few important things to be mindful of:

  • Safety is cool, we strongly advise you wear protective gear
  • To get your skating started, take little steps with your feet in a 'V' shape: toes out, heels in. You can then begin to glide from one foot to the other as you become more confident.
  • While you are skating, keep your knees gently bent and your weight forward. If you find yourself straightening or using your arms to maintain balance, just tuck back down into a bent knee stance to redistribute your weight again.
  • To stop, rollerblades have a break on the back of one heel and roller skates can be stopped by gently turning the toes of the skates towards each other and the heels out (a plough stop) or dragging the wheels of one skate on the ground behind you (a T stop)
