Multi-talented Indigenous musician Tia Gostelow has captured the hearts of audiences around the nation in just a few short years. Moving with ease between folksy roots rock, sleek dancefloor jams and crystalline pop, the rising Queensland star is among Australia’s hottest young talents. Riding high on the acclaim for her third album, Head Noise, Gostelow returns to the Sydney Opera House for her exciting Vivid LIVE debut at the Utzon Room.
Inspired to play music at age eight after seeing Taylor Swift live, Gostelow was just 16 when her debut single, 2016’s 'State of Art', won Triple J’s inaugural Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative. In 2018, her haunting and hooky folk rocker 'Strangers' became a radio smash and platinum-selling ARIA hit, while her critically acclaimed debut album Thick Skin went gold, scored a National Indigenous Music Award nomination, and won the Queensland Music Award for Album of the Year. Gostelow’s follow-up, Chrysalis (2020), saw her pivot to ’80s-inspired synth pop and dancefloor-ready hooks; on her latest release, 2023’s Head Noise, the singer distilled her eclectic musical styles for a set of gorgeously buoyant pop songs about the complexities of twenty-something life and love. It’s shapeshifting pop at its best, unified by Gostelow’s rich, dreamy vocals and impressive gift for melody.
This is Gostelow’s first appearance at the Sydney Opera House since the First Nations showcase in 2019, and marks her auspicious debut at Vivid LIVE. Don’t be a stranger.
