Since their modest beginnings in an inner-west share-house during the depths of the pandemic, Sydney/Eora music collective dstreet. have emerged with a series of impeccable dance parties that capture the vibe of a city in resurgence. This year they’re bringing their exquisitely curated sound – with special guests Mad Miran, Piezo, Kate Miller and Emelyne – to Vivid LIVE for their inaugural Studio Party.
As Sydney entered its first week of lockdown, DJs Talia Jiménez (aka Tangela), Angelo Farina (Rubric), Tom Bottrill, Charlotte Reed (None Troubles), Sean Maroney (Teen Truckie) and Arthur Hayes – all residents of Douglas Street, Stanmore – joined forces to spin tracks right out of their share-house living room. Each week the crew would invite a new local talent to play a set, and soon the dstreet. collective were delivering fresh, vital sounds to an ever-growing audience of locked-down listeners around the country. Bringing that energy to the post-pandemic dancefloor, dstreet. launched a series of parties starring local and international favourites, where you can expect to hear the best of the city’s thriving electronic music scene.
Mad Miran
Beloved for her eclectic and unpredictable style, Rotterdam-based artist Mad Miran is one of the most exciting DJs to emerge on the European scene in the last few years. Her versatile selection draws on everything – breakbeat, electro, IDM, minimal techno, acid house, old-school hip-hop – to create a sound quite unlike anything else out there. As she says herself: “Genres are disturbing. I play vibes.”
Piezo
Milan’s Piezo is an electronic music producer, DJ and sound artist working at the intersection of UK techno, sound-system culture and mutant dance music. A formative period spent living in Bristol led to releases on bass-heavy labels Idle Hands, Swamp81, Wisdom Teeth and Version, while his own label, Ansia, focuses on energetic dancefloor releases renowned for their uniquely spaced-out sound design.
Kate Miller
Kate Miller cut her teeth in her hometown of Melbourne before relocating to Berlin, where she made a name for herself with her seamless, vibrant blend of electro, IDM, footwork and drum & bass. When she’s not running her label and radio show Body Verse, she’s moving dancefloors at De School, Panorama Bar and Australia’s Cool Room with her irresistible grooves and transcendent taste.
Emelyne
An integral and much-loved part of the Melbourne dance music scene, Emelyne is known for her deep-dive sets that blend hip-hop, bass music, dub, broken beat, future grooves and experimental electronic music – with a dash of modern funk, boogie, soul and jazz. She curates Canopy, a monthly night dedicated to nurturing emerging and underground artists in the community.
