Late Night Express: Wax’O Paradiso (Melbourne)

Soundtracking the cosmic verandah of Howard Arkley’s suburban weatherboard paradise, Wax’o Paradiso’s splendid ‘krautback’ discoteque consists of magic possums Andy Hart, Edd Fisher and Simon TK. While all three DJ under their own names, when they play together as Wax’o Paradiso it’s for back to back, cheek to cheek extended sets.

From the first time they played together, they knew they could fill the gaps in each other’s tastes. Edd’s knowledge of afrobeat, latin and obscure music runs deep Andy knows the house music canon like the back of his hand and has knack for finding anthems while Simon fills the spaces with cosmic and italo sounds.

Wax’o has popped up in floating rooftop gardens, luscious convents, shipping containers, train yards, supernatural amphitheatres and smack bang under the Sydney Harbour bridge. They’ve closed Tasmania’s Dark Mofo festival and played the famed Canavan’s Peckham Pool Club with Rhythm Section’s Bradley Zero (UK).

This Winter they’ll be playing under the roof of Harpoon Harry’s lit by the lights of Vivid Sydney! United by a penchant for kitsch Australian psychedelia, and a firm belief that Pavlova is indeed the Queen of the dessert, these party purveyors are hell bent on getting you hell bent.
