Activated is an immersive light sculpture that playfully engages visitors by combining architectural, visual, and musical techniques to create a novel interactive experience.
The installation reimagines common structural materials as actuators of artistic expression; interactive copper touch sensors control the live mixing of colour, sound, and smoke effects internally, while stationary external mosaic mirrors reflect the movement and life of our activated Sydney surrounds.
This coalescence results in a series of 6 scenes, which change hourly. Each scene draws inspiration from a different Australian sunset (Sydney Harbour, Uluru, Cable Beach, and more) and it’s Roy De Maistre-influence colour-music counterpart; consisting of audio samples that explore the range of Australian urban and natural soundscapes (East Coast ocean breathing, Hills Hoist percussion, urban underground music scenes, and more).
