Lenore Taylor is Guardian Australia's editor. She has won two Walkley awards and has twice won the Paul Lyneham award for excellence in press gallery journalism. She co-authored a book, Shitstorm, on the Rudd government's response to the global economic crisis.

Hosted by Guardian Australia’s editor, Lenore Taylor, and social researcher and author Rebecca Huntley, Common Ground is a podcast series that aims to go beyond filter bubbles to understand why voters are disillusioned with the political system, and how they have formed their political views. We talked to four Australians each week who represented a variety of political views from Cory Bernardi’s Australian Conservatives, to the Greens and the two major parties.
 

Rebecca Huntley

Dr Rebecca Huntley is one of Australians foremost researchers on social and consumer trends. She has a background in publishing, academia and politics. She holds degrees in law and film studies and a PhD in Gender Studies.  For nearly 9 years Rebecca was the Director of The Mind & Mood Report, Australia's longest running social trends report, founded by Hugh Mackay. She is the author of numerous books including the recent Still Lucky: why you should feel optimistic about Australia and its people (Penguin 2017). She was a feature writer for Australian Vogue, a columnist for BRW and the presenter of RN Drive on a Friday. She writes and podcasts for The Guardian Australia. She is a sought after commentator on social trends on radio, in print and on television. She is on the Artistic Advisory Board of the Bell Shakespeare Company, an adjunct senior lecturer at the School of Social Sciences at The University of New South Wales and a board member of The Whitlam Institute.

Over three successive Wednesdays, Vivid Sydney will take over the gallery create an intimate portrait of our better selves. Tonight, we explore collaboration and how we can find common ground when conflict emerges with Lenore Taylor and Dr Rebecca Huntley. Masterful musical collaborators Nadav Kahn, Lior and Tony Buchen perform as Air Land Sea. While you’re here, catch the Archibald Prize – a snapshot of the people who are important to us and capture our imaginations.

Australia’s most famous, and at times controversial, art prize presents portraits of the people that matter to us now, shaped through the eyes and hands of contemporary artists. Join curator of the Archibald prize Anne Ryan as she walks you through this year’s portraits and discover how they reflect our concerns, desires and fascinations over the year that has passed.

How do we find common ground where there’s tension? How do we reconcile differences of opinion on the issues destined to affect us all? Social Researcher Rebecca Huntley and Journalist Lenore Taylor explore these questions in their Common ground podcast series for The Guardian Australia. 

Common ground is a meeting of minds in which four Australians of different ages, life experiences and political leanings debate hot button issues including immigration, same-sex marriage, and inequality. The aim of the series is to go beyond our ‘filter bubbles’ to understand how voters form their views and why they are disillusioned with the political system.

Find out what Lenore and Rebecca unearthed in the process of creating Common ground and the picture it paints of Australia. Discover how we can all benefit by broadening our frame of reference to become better informed, rather than remaining too comfortable in our bubbles.

Air Land Sea is Nadav Kahn, Lior and Tony Buchen, a trio of three dear friends who all pursued diverse musical journeys since meeting as teenagers. As Air Land Sea, they compose and create a collection of highly emotive, harmony driven original songs in a truly organic collaboration.

‘Vivid After Hours’ showcases their passionate, debut album.
