Vivid Ideas at Chatswood Chase: Phillip Gough, Lecturer in Biological Design, University of Sydney

Biology will change every aspect of our lives: including food, clothes, energy and medicine. In this talk Dr Phil Gough will introduce Biodesign, where design and biology partner to solve human-centred problems and improve human and planetary health.

Technology is changing our lives faster than any time in history, and at an ever-increasing rate. It is now the century of biology, where mankind is asserting control over life itself. This brings challenges and opportunities for fields as diverse as manufacturing, health and medicine, textiles, energy, food and architecture.

In this talk Dr Phil Gough will introduce Biodesign, the interdisciplinary pursuit of life science and design. Discover how solutions for medical problems are being reimagined using a combination of approaches. Explore future technology where living organisms work as partners to solve difficult, human-centred problems and improve human and planetary health.

Dr Phillip Gough is a lecturer at the Sydney Design Lab and School of Life and Environmental Science and the Program Director of the Biological Deign major, a new, interdisciplinary stream at the University of Sydney. Dr Gough’s research bridges the divide design and science, with the aim of closing the gap between scientific research and the general public using creative applications of biology and data visualisation.

Design @ Day is a Vivid edition of the Design @ Dusk talk series on design research, brought to you by the Design Lab at the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design & Planning, and the Willoughby Council.

Please join us for these inspiring and fast-paced talks exploring the possibilities for design to affect change.
