'One of the most significant composers and individual saxophonists in jazz' – The New York Times
The influential 82-year-old saxophonist from classic ensembles with Miles Davis, Weather Report, and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, 10-time Grammy Award-winner Wayne Shorter will draw Vivid LIVE to a euphoric close with his signature, improvised solos and a life's work of classic compositions.
A living and breathing bloodline between the golden age of jazz standards, the cosmic '70s and fusion staples, Shorter has also featured on 10 albums from folk legend Joni Mitchell as well as Steely Dan's definitive Aja. An enduring idol and mentor of fellow Vivid LIVE artist Esperanza Spalding, the Lifetime Achievement-winner has drawn critical acclaim with his decade-long collaboration that is the Wayne Shorter Quartet; his first permanent acoustic ensemble featuring pianist Danilo Perez, bassist John Patitucci, and Brian Blade on drums.
Exploring his trademark works with the same exploratory spirit in which he made his name, one of the most charismatic figures in the history of jazz returns for a rare performance in Sydney; his first in six years at Vivid LIVE.
