Shining Bird is an experimental pop band from the coastal town of Austinmer, NSW Australia. They released their debut album ‘Leisure Coast’ in 2013 to widespread acclaim for its unique brand of Eucalyptus dream pop. Their debut single “Distant Dreaming” was named Rage TV’s ‘Indie clip of the Week’, while Sydney’s FBi Radio listed it as the third most played track of 2013.
Shining Bird have played alongside acts such as Kurt Vile, Franz Ferdinand, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Drones, Father John Misty, and appeared at numerous festivals including Sydney Festival, Melbourne Music Week, Newtown Festival, Fairgrounds Festival and Secret Garden to name just a few. The band’s live shows earned them a finalist nomination for ‘Best Live Act’ in FBi’s Sydney Music, Art & Culture Awards in 2014.
For the past year the band have been making regular trips to the Blue Mountains of NSW to write and record new material. Trekking to remote lookouts and watching classic Australian films fueLled the creative process. After much anticipation from fans, the band emerged with their first offering since 2013 “Rivermouth” a song steeped in Australian bush and coastal imagery, with layers of detail that offer a different journey on every listen. Praised by by fans around the country, “Rivermouth" was publicly voted as “Song Of The Year” at the 2015 FBi Radio SMAC Awards.
Their next offering is the anthemic “Helluva Lot”, mixed by Tim Whitten (The Go-Betweens, Hoodoo Gurus) shows Shining Bird’s continued desire to push their song writing and sonic exploration to new peaks. To celebrate its release on Spunk / Caroline Records, Shining Bird are hitting the East Coast with a run of dates. Expect to hear some sneak peeks from their upcoming album due later this year.
