Late last year, all past and present members of the Hoodoo Gurus gathered for a unique concert event. It had taken years to align everyone's schedules - and to re-bury some old hatchets - but it finally came together at Scarborough Beach, W.A. last November at the Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution concert. That extraordinary concert event is being presented just one more time, but this time in Sydney as part of this year's Vivid Festival.

The concert will commence with the band's original (bass-guitarless) line-up from 1982, back then called le Hoodoo Gurus. After playing six songs they will then swap some members on stage and "morph" into the classic Stoneage Romeos line-up from 1984. Similarly, more Gurus will change places to recreate the Mars Needs Guitars/Blow Your Cool line-up from 1985 – 1987, before arriving at the current, most long-lasting version of the band (1988 to the present). The four different incarnations of the Hoodoo Gurus will be playing those songs as originally performed by them "back in the day", including some that haven't been heard for decades. Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution will finally climax with all of the band's current and past members on stage together, performing a mammoth tribal version of the bands's first single, Leilani. That is, eight musicians playing two drumkits, two bass guitars and four "regular" electric guitars plus a whole lot of singing. As Neil Diamond would say, what a beautiful noise!

This historic concert event has become especially poignant as it will also be the band's final concert with drummer Mark Kingsmill. Mark recently announced his intention to retire from the Hoodoo Gurus after more than 30 years together, capping a career that produced dozens of hits and, along the way, forever cemented the band into the national psyche as well as the ARIA Hall Of Fame. There can be no better way for the legendary australian band to close another chapter of its history than with a concert in the heart of Sydney, the city where the band was formed in late-1981 in nearby Darlinghurst and which has been its physical and spiritual home ever since. It is even more appropriate that Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution is being held in the Special Exhibition Hall inside Sydney's “living history” museum, the Powerhouse Museum on Saturday 23rd of May.

In keeping with the audio-visual aspect of the Vivid Festival, and as part of the evolution/revolution theme of the concert, the Special Exhibition Hall will turned into a psychedelic “happening” for the show. A dazzling array of modern and antique lighting effects (digital projectors and analogue devices) will see the concert venue become an all-encompassing light and sound spectacular, much like Andy Warhol's legendary Exploding Plastic Inevitable in the 1960s.

The Powerhouse Museum will also be displaying many items of Hoodoo Gurus memorabilia and stage props from its collection.

Be My Guru: The Evolution Revolution will be an unforgettable musical and visual feast.
