Artists: Motti+Smith (Australia) / Paper Moose (Australia)
The 8Bits+Bytes installation is a collaboration between two Sydney based production powerhouses, Motti+Smith and Paper Moose.
Friendly battles are at the heart of the 8Bits+Bytes activation. Motti+Smith have curated a line up of five of Sydney’s famous burger houses to create bespoke battle burgers especially for VIVID Sydney 2016, alongside other hand picked food and beverage offerings; while Paper Moose have taken a vintage arcade gaming theme, synonymous with playful competition, and scaled it up to mammoth proportions.
Featuring a giant overscale pixel LED light wall 3m high and stretching almost 30m long, the food facades dazzle onlookers with the adventures of an animated burger friend, through fields of colour and text.
Eating and gathering areas are injected with 8 bit features, transporting you through the monitor into giant world of low resolution trees, burgers, storm clouds and other bonus features.
The crowning jewel of the 8Bits+Bytes installation is interactivity. Hashtag your favorite burger to cast a vote for your favorite burger battler. These votes will be automatically plucked from the world wide web and tallied on a live action vintage TV score board. You also have the opportunity to plug into the biggest CRT set you have ever seen, with motion tracking technology which allows you to challenge a friend at digital squash where YOU are the racket.
All in all, 8Bits+Bytes will bring Martin Place to life with visual feasts and gladiatorial gastronomic games.
